All Seeing. All Together. 5/5

After procuring 8mm x 2mm rounded magnets, I tested them inside each model to check the strength, fit and usability. The magnets fit with double clearance, so I have used multiple magnets where possible to strengthen the pull. The magnetic force is strong enough to hold together and doesn’t come apart when the face is turned down, however, that is with 5 magnets and an extra magnet in the center clearance. This center magnet is necessary to strengthen the connection but causes a gap between the eye plate and the eyecups.

The black resin model still has sharp geometry that hinders the movement of the eyeballs; this could be resolved with further sanding and glossing. The PLA print is a smooth enough material to allow free movement while retaining some closed contact to hold the eye in place. I am very pleased with these initial models and they have inspired ideas for my final research project and even side projects in building a fully realised stop motion armature. Current methodologies of puppet production in animation are laborious and inefficient; having the ability to fully develop and customise armature parts with a much quicker turn-around time has great potential for enhancing product quality and performance throughout stop-motion
